Ouarzazate
This town beguiles the visitor with its colours: the strong red of a desert-like landscape speckled with the soft green of the oases; and the ochre of the mysterious Kasbahs, which are surrounded by powerful walls. And all this is outshined by the snow covered summits of the Atlas Mountains on the horizon. Thus Ouarzazate blends all these hues and creates a dream-like scenery. No wonder that famous film producers often occupy the town in order to turn films like: ‘Lawrence of Arabia’, ‘A Tea in the Desert’, ‘Asterix and Cleopatra’, etc. Two interesting film studios are situated on the outskirts and can be visited; a further extension of the studios is planned for the near future. The surroundings of Ouarzazate, this ‘Moroccan Hollywood’, offer fantastic landscapes, characterised by the desert, the oases of the Draa valley, the High Atlas mountains, and the fortified mountain villages and Kasbahs which belong to the UNESCO world cultural heritage
